The 5th Egon Schiele Symposium was dedicated to Egon Schiele's network and his numerous friends and acquaintances. The present publication includes the keynote speech by renowned historian Philipp Blom on bodies and identities in Vienna around 1900, as well as numerous contributions on Schiele's relationships and connections to his contemporaries. In their presentations, Burg focused on the early Schiele collector Karl Ernst Osthaus, Matzner on Schiele's artist colleague Albert Paris Gütersloh, and Bonnefoit on Oskar Kokoschka's misgivings towards his contemporary. Jesse considered the fruitful encounter with Max Oppenheimer, Hönigl his acquaintance with Felix Albrecht Harta. Klee made references to Adolf Hölzel, Feurle examined the artistic practice of the Neukünstler (New Artists), while Emberger discussed the monument protection issues surrounding Schiele.
