The comprehensive permanent presentation of the Leopold Museum’s core collection, Vienna 1900. Birth of Modernism, illustrates the uniqueness of art, culture and science in Vienna around 1900. This extensive exhibition highlights the plethora of artistic innovation and intellectual achievements in Vienna in the late 19th and early 20th century. The last cultural heyday before the demise of the Danube Monarchy brought about the departure into Modernism, the triumph and subsequent surpassing of Viennese Jugendstil, as well as the breakthrough of Austrian Expressionism.
