Leopold Museum: Dazzling Summer Party with a “Roaring Twenties” Theme Fundraising Dinner in the Style of the “Golden Twenties” on the Museum’s Rooftop

27.06.2024

2024’s exclusive Fundraising Dinner was based on the theme of the “Roaring Twenties”. The festive evening in the style of the 1920s on the rooftop of the Leopold Museum was hosted by the Leopold Museum’s Directors Hans-Peter Wipplinger and Moritz Stipsicz, along with Georg Pölzl, head of the board of the Circle of Patrons, Josef Ostermayer, head of the board of the Leopold Museum-Privatstiftung, and Saskia Leopold, board member and granddaughter of the museum founders Elisabeth and Rudolf Leopold.

“The Golden Twenties” – Zest for Life, Glamor and High Spirits at the Leopold Museum

The large-scale summer exhibition at the Leopold Museum, Splendor and Misery. New Objectivity in Germany, focuses on the tumultuous years of the Weimar Republic (1918–1933). The exponents of New Objectivity captured both the sense of resignation and indescribable hardships of this era, as well as its hopes and emerging zest for life, on canvas and paper. In celebration of this presentation, the museum’s annual Fundraising Dinner was placed under the banner of the “Roaring Twenties”. This term describes the economic, scientific and cultural sense of departure during these years that was particularly palpable in the metropolis Berlin, where life was celebrated: This unbridled sentiment was characterized by a zest for life, by glamor, high spirits, a hope for the future and the “liberation” of women from social constraints, making the wild 1920s among the most exciting periods of the past century.

The guests of the Leopold Museum’s Fundraising Dinner were welcomed into an ambiance steeped in the spirit of the “Roaring Twenties”. The elegant champagne reception on the rooftop was followed by a tour of the special exhibition Splendor and Misery – the first comprehensive presentation on German New Objectivity in Austria – as well as by an open-air dinner with a 1920s feel. Along with Charleston dancers and a roving magician, the vocal trio The Su’sis provided glamor, entertainment and swing. After the party’s special highlight – the raffle – hosts and guests rounded off the atmospheric summer night at the Libelle.
