WE ARE MANY.
CELEBRATING DIVERSITY
Art and culture thrive on diversity – without diversity in thought and action, it would be impossible to question societal norms and experience freedom in a vibrant democracy. In an increasingly polarized world, it often feels as though having an open-minded attitude leaves one isolated.
With the new initiative WE ARE MANY, the Leopold Museum aims to show that we have always been many who are committed to critical thinking, exploring new paths, and engaging in deep discussions.
The Leopold Museum takes its responsibility as a cultural and educational institution seriously and actively advocates for the promotion of diversity, inclusion, and democratic values.
The initiative is closely linked to the permanent exhibition VIENNA 1900. BIRTH OF MODERNISM Vienna around 1900 was a melting pot of cultures and beliefs and stands as a model for a society that benefited from its diversity despite its contradictions.
The Art Demonstration: Art as a Statement
Between August 29 and September 29, 2024, an "Art Demonstration" will take place in the exhibition rooms of the Leopold Museum. For this, artworks have been transformed into "protest signs," which, through their motifs or the biographical backgrounds of the artists, represent current, relevant socio-political issues such as war, poverty, hunger, gender identity, sexuality, diversity, and environmental awareness.
Diversity is timeless. Experience it yourself at the Leopold Museum.

GUIDED TOURS FOR THE ART DEMONSTRATION
As part of the "Art Demonstration," exclusive guided tours will take place every Sunday in September. These tours will focus on selected themes and works within the permanent exhibition "VIENNA 1900. Birth of Modernism" and the special exhibition "SPLENDOR AND MISERY. New Objectivity in Germany." The period in Vienna around 1900, as well as in Germany during the 1920s, was marked by social upheavals, contradictions, and a wealth of diversity. Even a century ago, artists were engaging with socio-political issues such as war, sexuality, and environmental awareness—topics that remain relevant today.
